Ingredients
-
1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
-
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
-
1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce (plus extra for dipping)
-
1/2 cup pepperoni slices (optional)
-
1/4 cup chopped bell peppers (optional)
-
1/4 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
-
1 tsp Italian seasoning
-
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
-
Olive oil spray (for air fryer basket)
Instructions
-
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes.
-
Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 4 equal pieces.
-
Spread a tablespoon or two of marinara sauce onto each piece of dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
-
Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
-
Add any desired fillings such as pepperoni, veggies, or other toppings.
-
Sprinkle a pinch of Italian seasoning over the fillings.
-
Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for extra sealing.
-
Brush each calzone with the beaten egg to give them a golden, shiny finish.
-
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with olive oil. Place the calzones in the basket, ensuring they are not touching. You may need to cook them in batches.
-
Air fry at 375°F for 8–10 minutes or until they are golden and crispy on the outside.
-
Let the calzones cool for a few minutes before serving with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
-
Make sure to leave a bit of space between the calzones in the air fryer so they cook evenly.
-
You can swap the marinara sauce for pesto or garlic butter for a different flavor.
-
Feel free to get creative with the fillings — spinach, olives, or even different cheeses work great!
