Description

A classic and creamy banana pudding recipe layered with vanilla wafers, fresh bananas, and rich vanilla pudding for a nostalgic Southern dessert favorite.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups cold water
  • 1 (3.4 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 (11 oz) box vanilla wafers
  • 45 ripe bananas, sliced
  • Optional: crushed wafers or whipped cream for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk and cold water until combined.
  2. Add vanilla pudding mix and whisk for about 2 minutes until smooth. Refrigerate for 5 minutes to set slightly.
  3. In another bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold the whipped cream into the pudding mixture until fully combined and creamy.
  5. In a trifle dish or 9×13-inch pan, layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, and pudding mixture. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with pudding on top.
  6. Chill for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow flavors to meld.
  7. Top with extra whipped cream or crushed vanilla wafers before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Use instant banana pudding mix for an extra banana flavor twist.
  • Dip banana slices in lemon juice to prevent browning if preparing ahead.
  • Best served chilled and within 2 days for freshness.
  • Make individual servings in jars or cups for a fun presentation.
