Ingredients

Units Scale
  • Tostadas:
  • 8 corn tostada shells
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing, optional)
  • Beef & Bean Layer:
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 (15 oz) can refried beans
  • Toppings:
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 avocado, sliced or mashed
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • Lime wedges (for serving)
  • Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  • Prep the Tostadas (if using soft corn tortillas):
  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Brush tortillas lightly with olive oil and bake on a sheet pan for 5–7 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Let cool.
  • Cook the Ground Beef:
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat. Add taco seasoning and water, stirring to combine. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  • Warm the Beans:
  • Heat refried beans in a small saucepan over low heat until smooth and warm.
  • Assemble the Tostadas:
  • Spread a spoonful of warm refried beans on each tostada shell. Add a layer of seasoned beef. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cheese, avocado, sour cream, and cilantro.
  • Serve:
  • Squeeze fresh lime juice on top and add hot sauce if desired. Serve immediately!

Notes

  • You can swap ground beef for ground turkey or shredded chicken.
  • Use store-bought tostada shells to save time.
  • Great for using up leftover taco toppings.
