Scale
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp water (as needed)
- Raisins or chocolate chips for eyes (optional)
- 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add the rest of the sugar, melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide into equal pieces. Shape each into a round body and use smaller pieces to form bunny ears, attaching them by pinching the dough.
- Place shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Press in raisins or chocolate chips for eyes, if using. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush each bunny bun with egg wash.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve with butter, jam, or a sweet glaze for extra flavor.
- Use kitchen scissors to snip ear shapes for a more detailed look.
- Buns can be frozen after baking and reheated when needed.
