Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake infused with orange flavor, topped with creamy chocolate ganache and orange zest for a decadent dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 (3.4 oz) box instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1/2 tsp orange extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and orange juice until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  4. Allow the cake to cool slightly, then use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk until thickened.
  6. Pour the pudding evenly over the cake, spreading it with a spatula so it seeps into the holes.
  7. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour to allow the pudding to set.
  8. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just simmering, then pour over the chocolate chips in a bowl.
  9. Let sit for a minute, then stir until smooth to create ganache.
  10. Spread the ganache over the chilled cake and top with orange zest.
  11. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Optional: add a few drops of orange extract to the ganache for extra citrus flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice for the best flavor.
  • Ganache can be made ahead of time and reheated gently.
  • Top with whipped cream or candied orange slices for garnish.
