Description

Cinnamon Roll Apple Lasagna is a delightful fall-inspired dessert that layers soft cinnamon rolls with spiced apple pie filling and a creamy sweetened cream cheese layer. Baked to golden perfection and drizzled with icing, this dish offers a perfect balance of warm spices, creamy texture, and sweet apple flavors, making it an irresistible treat for gatherings or cozy autumn nights.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Roll Layers

  • 2 cans (8-count each) refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing)

Apple Filling

  • 1 can (21 oz) apple pie filling
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Cream Cheese Layer

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Flatten Bottom Cinnamon Rolls: Separate the cinnamon rolls and flatten each one into a 3-inch round shape. Use half of the rolls to cover the bottom of the prepared dish, pressing them together to seal any gaps between them.
  3. Mix and Spread Apple Filling: In a bowl, combine the apple pie filling with cinnamon and nutmeg until well mixed. Spread half of this spiced apple mixture evenly over the bottom cinnamon roll layer.
  4. Prepare Cream Cheese Layer: In another bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Spread this over the apple filling layer.
  5. Top with Remaining Apple Filling: Spread the remaining apple pie filling evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  6. Add Top Cinnamon Rolls: Flatten the remaining cinnamon rolls into 3-inch rounds and arrange them over the top of the apple filling to cover it completely.
  7. Bake the Lasagna: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the layers are set. Once done, remove from oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  8. Drizzle with Icing and Serve: Drizzle the reserved icing from the cinnamon roll cans over the warm lasagna. Serve warm or chilled according to preference.

Notes

  • Flattening the cinnamon rolls helps create even layers and a cohesive lasagna texture.
  • You can omit nutmeg if you prefer less spice or substitute with allspice for a different flavor.
  • Allowing the lasagna to cool slightly before icing helps the icing to set nicely without melting too much.
  • This dish can be served warm for gooier layers or chilled for firmer slices.
  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to avoid lumps in the cream cheese layer.
