Ingredients
-
8 oz cream cheese, softened
-
2 green onions, finely chopped
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1 teaspoon sugar (optional, for a hint of sweetness)
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
20-24 wonton wrappers
-
Water (for sealing edges)
-
Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
Instructions
-
In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, sugar (if using), and salt until smooth.
-
Lay out a few wonton wrappers at a time. Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper.
-
Lightly wet the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold into a triangle or bring all corners up to form a pouch. Press edges firmly to seal.
-
In a deep skillet or pot, heat 2–3 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
-
Fry wontons in batches for 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
-
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
-
Serve hot with sweet chili sauce, duck sauce, or soy sauce.
Notes
-
You can air fry these at 375°F for 7–8 minutes, spraying lightly with oil.
-
Add a pinch of sriracha or chopped crab meat to the filling for a fun twist.
-
Uncooked wontons can be frozen and fried straight from the freezer (add an extra minute of cook time).
