Description

These crispy cream cheese wontons are a delicious mix of creamy filling wrapped in a golden, crunchy shell. Filled with smooth cream cheese, a touch of garlic, and green onions, they’re quick to make and always a crowd-pleaser. Fry them up fresh or prep ahead for easy entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 2 green onions, finely chopped

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, for a hint of sweetness)

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 20-24 wonton wrappers

  • Water (for sealing edges)

  • Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, sugar (if using), and salt until smooth.

  • Lay out a few wonton wrappers at a time. Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper.

  • Lightly wet the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold into a triangle or bring all corners up to form a pouch. Press edges firmly to seal.

  • In a deep skillet or pot, heat 2–3 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).

  • Fry wontons in batches for 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Don’t overcrowd the pan.

  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  • Serve hot with sweet chili sauce, duck sauce, or soy sauce.

Notes

  • You can air fry these at 375°F for 7–8 minutes, spraying lightly with oil.

  • Add a pinch of sriracha or chopped crab meat to the filling for a fun twist.

  • Uncooked wontons can be frozen and fried straight from the freezer (add an extra minute of cook time).
