Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 cup corn kernels (fresh, frozen, or canned and drained)
- 1 jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped
- ½ cup cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Assembly
- 24 wonton wrappers
- Small bowl of water (for sealing)
Frying
- Vegetable oil (for frying, about 2 inches deep)
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the corn kernels, finely chopped jalapeño, softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly mixed into a creamy, flavorful filling.
- Fill the wonton wrappers: Lay the wonton wrappers flat on a clean work surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of the prepared filling into the center of each wrapper. Dip a finger in water and moisten the edges of each wrapper to help seal.
- Seal the wontons: Fold each wrapper diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges firmly to seal while gently pushing out any air pockets to avoid bursting during cooking.
- Heat the oil: In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C), ensuring about 2 inches of oil depth to allow proper frying.
- Fry the wontons: Carefully fry the wontons in batches, cooking each side for 2–3 minutes until they become golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain oil temperature and even cooking.
- Drain and serve: Remove the fried wontons with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve these hot with dipping sauces such as ranch, sour cream, or sweet chili sauce for an extra burst of flavor.
Notes
- You can bake the wontons instead of frying by brushing them lightly with oil and baking at 400°F (200°C) for 10–12 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Air frying is also an option: cook at 375°F for 8–10 minutes for a healthier alternative.
- Prep the wontons ahead of time and freeze them before cooking to have convenient snacks ready for future occasions.
