Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined and form into 16 small meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and brown on all sides, about 5–7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add onions and mushrooms. Sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
- Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and stir for 1 minute to cook the flour.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth, then add ketchup and Dijon mustard. Stir and bring to a simmer.
- Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through and sauce has thickened.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles, and garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Make ahead and reheat—the flavors get even better.
- Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
