- 1 lb ground beef or pork (or a mix)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- For the topping:
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk or sour cream (or a mix)
- 1 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft. Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
- Add ground meat and cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Remove from heat.
- Lightly oil a baking dish. Layer half of the potato slices on the bottom.
- Spread the meat mixture evenly over the potatoes.
- Top with the remaining potato slices.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk (or sour cream), flour (if using), and a pinch of salt.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered moussaka.
- Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and potatoes are tender.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- You can prepare the meat mixture ahead of time and assemble later.
- Use zucchini or eggplant for a variation of layers.
- Serve with a side of salad or yogurt for a complete meal.
