Description

Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes combine the cheesy, crispy goodness of a grilled cheese sandwich with the savory, saucy filling of a classic sloppy joe, creating a fun and hearty twist on two comfort food favorites.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices sandwich bread
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar or American cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat.
  3. Butter one side of each bread slice. Place half the slices butter-side down on a skillet or griddle.
  4. Top each with cheese, a scoop of sloppy joe mixture, more cheese, and another slice of bread, butter-side up.
  5. Cook over medium heat until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted, about 2–3 minutes per side.
  6. Cut in half and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use Texas toast for a thicker, crispier sandwich.
  • Add pickles or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • Keep warm in a 200°F oven if making multiple batches.
