Description

These Homemade Brownies are rich, fudgy, and perfectly chocolatey with a crackly top and chewy edges. Made from scratch with simple pantry ingredients, they’re far better than any box mix and easy enough for any baker to master. Whether you’re craving a quick dessert or baking for a crowd, these brownies are sure to satisfy.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Add-ins

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix wet ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and combined.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla. Add the eggs one at a time along with the vanilla extract, whisking after each addition until the mixture becomes glossy and well incorporated.
  4. Combine dry ingredients. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt to remove lumps and ensure even distribution.
  5. Fold dry into wet. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep brownies tender.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips. Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips or chunks evenly throughout the batter.
  7. Transfer and smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula or back of a spoon.
  8. Bake the brownies. Bake in the preheated oven for 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached, indicating perfect fudginess.
  9. Cool and slice. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing them into 16 squares for serving.

Notes

  • For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them to retain moistness.
  • You can add nuts or swirl in peanut butter or caramel before baking for added flavor and texture.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days to maintain freshness.
