- 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Toss the beef strips with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the beef in batches and stir-fry until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add bell pepper and onion. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
- In a small bowl, mix maple syrup, soy sauce, rice vinegar, grated ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes, and water.
- Return the beef to the pan and pour the sauce over it. Toss to coat everything evenly.
- Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Serve hot, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the beef in a bit of soy sauce and ginger for 30 minutes before cooking.
- Serve over rice or noodles for a complete meal.
- Adjust the spice level by increasing or omitting the red pepper flakes.
