Ingredients
Scale
Shells and Base
- 1 package (15 count) mini phyllo shells (found in the freezer section)
Filling
- 1/2 pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/4 cup refried beans (optional)
Toppings
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
- 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup shredded lettuce
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- Sliced green onions or chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and arrange the mini phyllo shells evenly on a baking sheet to prepare for baking.
- Cook the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey until fully cooked, ensuring it’s no longer pink inside. Drain any excess grease to avoid sogginess.
- Season the meat: Add the taco seasoning and water to the cooked meat mixture, stirring well. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat evenly.
- Prepare shells with beans: If using refried beans, spread a small amount into the bottom of each mini phyllo shell to add texture and flavor.
- Fill the shells: Spoon the seasoned taco meat mixture into each shell over the beans (if used). Then sprinkle shredded cheese generously on top of the meat.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the phyllo shells are warmed through and slightly crisp.
- Add fresh toppings: Remove the tacos from the oven and immediately top them with diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, a dollop of sour cream, and garnish with sliced green onions or chopped cilantro.
- Serve: Serve the mini phyllo tacos immediately to enjoy their crispy texture and fresh flavors.
