Description

Mini Phyllo Tacos are delightful bite-sized appetizers featuring crispy phyllo shells filled with seasoned ground beef or turkey, melted cheese, and fresh toppings. These easy-to-make snacks are perfect for parties, game days, or casual gatherings, offering a flavorful Tex-Mex twist in convenient, edible cups.

Ingredients

Scale

Shells and Base

  • 1 package (15 count) mini phyllo shells (found in the freezer section)

Filling

  • 1/2 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 cup refried beans (optional)

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup shredded lettuce
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • Sliced green onions or chopped cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and arrange the mini phyllo shells evenly on a baking sheet to prepare for baking.
  2. Cook the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey until fully cooked, ensuring it’s no longer pink inside. Drain any excess grease to avoid sogginess.
  3. Season the meat: Add the taco seasoning and water to the cooked meat mixture, stirring well. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat evenly.
  4. Prepare shells with beans: If using refried beans, spread a small amount into the bottom of each mini phyllo shell to add texture and flavor.
  5. Fill the shells: Spoon the seasoned taco meat mixture into each shell over the beans (if used). Then sprinkle shredded cheese generously on top of the meat.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the phyllo shells are warmed through and slightly crisp.
  7. Add fresh toppings: Remove the tacos from the oven and immediately top them with diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, a dollop of sour cream, and garnish with sliced green onions or chopped cilantro.
  8. Serve: Serve the mini phyllo tacos immediately to enjoy their crispy texture and fresh flavors.
