Description

Rose simple syrup is a fragrant and floral sweetener crafted from just a few simple ingredients. It lends a subtle rose flavor and a delightful aroma, making it an elegant addition to cocktails, teas, lemonades, desserts, and baked goods. This versatile syrup enhances any recipe with its delicate floral notes and beautiful hue.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons dried edible rose petals or 1 tablespoon food-grade rose water
  • Optional: a drop of pink food coloring for a rosy hue

Instructions

  1. Combine Sugar and Water: In a small saucepan, add 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Place over medium heat and stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture starts to simmer gently.
  2. Add Rose Petals: If using dried edible rose petals, stir in 2 tablespoons of them into the simmering syrup. Allow the mixture to simmer lightly for 5–7 minutes to infuse the floral flavor into the syrup.
  3. Steep the Mixture: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the rose petals steep in the syrup for 10–15 minutes, allowing the flavors to deepen.
  4. Strain the Syrup: Use a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to strain out the rose petals, ensuring a clear syrup. If you opted for rose water instead of dried petals, skip this step.
  5. Add Rose Water & Coloring: Stir in 1 tablespoon of food-grade rose water after removing the syrup from the heat if you chose rose water for flavoring. Add a drop of pink food coloring if you desire a more vivid rosy hue.
  6. Cool and Store: Let the syrup cool completely to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer the syrup to a clean, airtight bottle or jar and refrigerate. The syrup will keep fresh for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Use only culinary-grade dried rose petals or food-grade rose water to ensure safety and flavor quality.
  • Start by adding a small amount of rose water and adjust to taste to prevent overpowering the syrup.
  • This syrup is perfect when added to iced tea, lattes, sparkling water, pancakes, or ice cream for a floral twist.
