- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix melted butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Beat in vanilla, egg, and egg yolk until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers are still soft.
- Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

- For extra soft cookies, do not overbake—cookies continue to cook on the baking sheet after removal.
- Chill dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
- Use chunks or a mix of chocolate for variety in texture.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
