Ingredients
-
1 package frozen dumplings (about 8-10 dumplings, any variety)
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1/2 tsp salt
-
3/4 cup warm water
-
2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)
-
1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
-
1/4 cup grated carrots
-
1/2 cup cooked chicken, pork, or beef (optional)
-
1 tbsp soy sauce (optional)
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
-
1 tbsp chopped cilantro (optional)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Dumplings: Cook the frozen dumplings according to the package instructions, either by steaming or boiling. Once cooked, remove from the water and set aside to cool.
-
Make the Flatbread Dough: In a bowl, mix the flour and salt. Gradually add the warm water, mixing to form a soft dough. Knead for 5 minutes, then cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.
-
Prepare the Filling: Once the dumplings are cooled, mash them up lightly with a fork or chop them into small pieces. In a bowl, combine the mashed dumplings with green onions, grated carrots, cooked meat (if using), soy sauce, garlic powder, and sesame oil. Stir until well combined.
-
Shape the Flatbreads: Divide the dough into small balls (about 6-8 balls). Roll each ball into a flat circle, about 4-5 inches in diameter.
-
Stuff the Flatbreads: Place a spoonful of the dumpling filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape, sealing the edges by pinching them together.
-
Cook the Flatbreads: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, place the stuffed flatbreads in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden and crispy.
-
Serve: Remove from the pan and sprinkle with chopped cilantro if desired. Serve warm with dipping sauce.
Notes
-
You can use any variety of cooked meat or skip the meat entirely for a vegetarian option.
-
If you prefer a lighter, healthier option, you can use whole wheat flour for the flatbread.
-
These flatbreads can also be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet before serving.
