- 1 lb cube steak or tenderized round steak
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Cut steak into thin strips, about 1-inch wide and 3–4 inches long.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. In another bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Dip each steak strip into the buttermilk mixture, then dredge in the seasoned flour. Repeat for extra crunch by double dipping if desired.
- Heat 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry steak fingers in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with country gravy, ranch, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For extra tenderness, lightly pound cube steak before cutting.
- Keep cooked steak fingers warm in a 200°F oven while frying remaining batches.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or fries for a full meal.
