Description

Turmeric Rice is a vibrant and aromatic side dish made with long-grain rice and infused with turmeric, giving it a beautiful golden color and subtle earthy flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1 bay leaf (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the turmeric, cumin (if using), black pepper, and salt to the pan, stirring for about 1 minute to toast the spices.
  4. Add the rice to the saucepan, stirring to coat the rice in the spices.
  5. Pour in the water or vegetable broth and add the bay leaf (if using).
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove the pan from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork and discard the bay leaf before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute vegetable broth for water to add more flavor to the rice.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of turmeric according to your preference for color and flavor.
  • This rice pairs well with a variety of dishes, such as curries, grilled vegetables, and meats.
