- 2 (15-ounce) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth with some chunks for texture.
- Add breadcrumbs, red onion, cilantro, garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into 4-5 burger patties, pressing firmly to help them hold together.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the patties for 4–5 minutes on each side or until browned and heated through.
- Serve on buns with your favorite vegan toppings and condiments.
Notes
- Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and tamari for a gluten-free version.
- Chill the patties for 30 minutes before cooking to help them firm up.
- Can be baked at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway.
